Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the New Music Friday

New Music Friday: 3/8/24
Street sounds swirling through my mind

Here are the rules: I listen to all 100 tracks of Spotify's New Music Friday playlist, except for anything that rhymes the n-word with itself more than three times, any screamo or screamo-adjacent stuff, any CCM that reveals its true intentions in time for me to hit the skip button, and any egregiously corny modern country music, typically performed by a dude with two first names. Having sifted through this week's playlist, here's what I actively enjoyed:

"Doing It Again Baby," girl in red
There must be something in the Norwegian water when it comes to stylizing one's musical stage name in all lowercase. girl in red, a.k.a. Marie Ulven Ringheim, is the hottest musical export out of Norway since her fellow lowercase enthusiasts in a-ha; "Doing It Again Baby" might not be quite as undeniable as "Take On Me," but it's still a pretty fine way to spend two and a half minutes — a galloping beat coupled with a me-against-the-world 'tude spit out through a cheerful grin. Sounds like a cheerleading squad that has all of its middle fingers raised.
